An autumnal poem by our Poet Laureate, Juliette Willenberg.
Autumn is…
The spiky, green cases of the shiny, smooth conkers
Falling from the treetops with a tap, tap, tap.
Leaves in shades of lush red, burnt orange and calming yellow
Dancing and darting as they descend.
Nocturnal animals playing on a soft, inviting carpet –
Gazing up at the silver, harvest moon.
A cosy living room with a welcoming fire
Crackling comfortingly as the TV announces a seasonal special.
Walks in the park in the blustery wind,
Followed by a steaming hot chocolate…
And a favourite blanket to curl up in.
