2T Science Week!

2T have loved exploring and discovering new things during Science week at Sherington! We have been learning more about materials and also carrying out lots of experiments. The children especially loved visiting Blue Planet today where they carried out lots of challenges with their buddies in Year 4.

Oceans and Volcanos

During Science Week, Puffin class explored volcanos and oceans. We discussed how to keep our oceans clean and how we can protect our planet. The children made ‘oceans in a bottle’ using oil, water, glitter and sand. The children also built their own volcano and experimented with different solutions to produce an effective eruption!  

Dinosaur Adventures

Puffin Class were visited by a palaeontologist called James this week. Together we explored a variety of fossils and discovered: a dinosaur egg, a Stegosaurus’ tail spike, an Allosaurus’ claw, ammonites and much, much more! Wide Horizons!

1Y had a fantastic trip to the Horton Kirby Wide Horizons Centre. The children had  a hands-on day learning all about how humans, animals and plants adapt to seasonal changes. The children loved exploring the woods where they made birds’ nests and foraged for chestnuts.

3W had fun at Hyde Park this week!

We love exploring the outdoors! This week we went to Hyde Park to discover all the different plants, we even go to make our own plant pots and plant edible plants!

5M-Climbing Wall – Science Week Trip

5M had a fantastic time at the Climbing Wall in Sutcliffe Park on Tuesday. Our Science topic this term is Forces so we were focusing on how Gravity is always acting as a force against us.

The children in 5F had an amazing time at the Sutcliffe Park climbing wall today. Gravity ceratinly did not hold any one back, on this fun-filled day out!

Fire Station Trip

1Y had a fantastic trip to the East Greenwich Fire Station today! Thankyou to all of the wonderful fire fighters who gave us a tour of the station and answered all of our questions. We especially loved sitting inside a real fire engine! #LFB #eastgreenwichfirestation #safety

Road Safety Workshop

This week Year 1 took part in a road safety workshop, as part of our Safety topic in Humanities.  The children learned about how to cross the road safely and how to stay safe when travelling in a car.  They were able to take part in some role play activities which they really enjoyed. 

Place Value

This week Year 1 have been learning all about place value. We have been comparing two digit numbers by identifying the tens and the ones in numbers.

20th Century Research

This afternoon, 6A began researching their own 20th Century figure, who have brought around change. We had lots of different figures, including Emmeline Pankhurst, Malcom X, Tim Berners Lee, Princess Diana and Michael Jordan. They will continue researching their figures and how they have helped shaped society today, before creating their own presentation.

4C are scientists

As part of our new science topic ‘Living Things and their Habitats’, we spent an exciting, if rather cold, afternoon in the Linnaeus garden looking at what we could find. We found over 20 different living things! Now we just have to classify them!

Year 2 African Music

Year 2 enjoyed their music lesson today where they got to play with a variety of instruments from Africa!

Billy’s Beetle

Dear Baby Bear

After writing their own versions of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, 1Y are working on a letter to Baby Bear from the perspective of Goldilocks. The children have been practising their letters using a text map and devising their own actions.

Year 2 – money money money £p

This week, Year 2 have been revising the values of British coins and notes. We have been representing their value using dienes and exploring word problems linked to money. Why don’t you test your child on their knowledge of coins?

Year 2 TingaTinga art!

Year 2 have enjoyed painting TingaTinga art inspired by the artist Edward TingaTinga. We used different colours, a variety of African animals and simple patterns to create our pieces of work. It was a lot of fun!

Year 3 went to the Animal Park!

This week Year 3 had a surprise trip to Maryon Wilson Animal Park. This was a hook into our new piece of writing, all about animals. We had a great time and made lots of notes!

4C’s Indian masks are finished!

4C are pleased to say that their mask making process has come to an end. They have all worked really hard and the masks look fantastic.

Year 5 hockey lesson

5F have been learning how to dribble, pass the ball to a partner and shoot into a goal. Next week they will be using their skills to play against each other in teams.

Our amazing 3D printed controller made by Sherington pupils

Year 3 composition work

Year 3 have enjoyed their composition work in Music this morning. They are learning to read and write music notation and had a go at playing their compositions on glockenspiels.    

Year 2 Habitats

This week, Year 2 have continued their learning about animal habitats. Children matched and sorted animals to where they live. We also discussed how animals have adapted to their environment.  

Guitars are set up ready for lessons
