4W Teethtastic Science!

In science this week, we have been learning about the different types of teeth and their functions. We made a clay mouth to show the different shapes and sizes of the teeth in our mouths, labelled them and described what they were used for.

Year 5 making clay masks

The children in year 5 made African masks out of clay with visiting artist, Marie-Louise Coffi,from Danhomeyvi Art, as part of our Spring topic ‘Black History’. The children looked at the features of masks from Benin, when making their own.

4W Roman Research

This week in Humanities, 4W were using a range of resources to research all about the Roman Empire. We found out some great facts and then shared these with the rest of the class.

Investigating capacity! 3W

This week in maths year 3 have been looking at capacity and volume. Using measuring cylinders, we measured how much liquid was in the bottle.

Bird Beak & Seeds Investigation

This afternoon, 6A used a range of everyday objects to find out which beaks would be best for different seeds. We investigated which of the beaks (scooping, shovel, grasping or probing) would be ideal for a large, medium and small seed-based diet. A fun and engaging way to investigate evolution and inheritance.

Some Year 6 children have been solving story maths problems, using iPads.  They worked collaboratively, assessing what went well and how they could improve.  Ask them to show you the website at home; how successfull will you be?  

The Winter’s Tale Workshop 2

This week, 6A took part in their second National Theatre Workshop of ‘The Winter’s Tale’. In this session, we dramatised a court scene, learnt the art of fainting and tried to stop ourselves from getting too close to our enemies. We even created our own babies who were abandoned in a forest!    

4W Indian Masks

4W have been creating Indian Masks this week using newspaper, modroc and vibrant paint!

Year 2 Fire Brigade Visit

Year 2 had a special visitor today from The London Fire Brigade! We talked about staying safe and what to do in an emergency.

Just Right!

Year 1 have been reading ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ this week and the children were able to try some porridge just like Goldilocks did. They tried three different flavours before deciding which one was ‘just right’!

2C’s introduction to Africa

Today we looked at different artifacts, stories and fruits from Africa. Some children discovered how to say hello in different African languages. We also located countries on a map and some children shared their links to Africa.

2T’s Introduction to Africa topic!

In 2T, we have started our new topic, Africa. Today, we read all about different African children, explored artifacts from Africa, labelled countries in Africa, read African stories and we even got to taste some delicious fruit that is from Africa!

Festive Treats

Last week, year 6 sold mince pies and Christmas cookies in order to raise money. Thanks to their efforts, we managed to raise a fantastic £159.47! Thank you for buying so many festive treats and helping to raise money for future Year 6 projects. Some great, young entrepreneurs in the making.

Year 2 enjoyed their festive party today! They have worked really hard this term and deserved this treat. We’d like to thank all the parents for their kind donations. What a fantastic day!

Buddhist symbolism

As part of their R.E. topic on Buddhism, year 3 have been looking at important Buddhist symbols. We even had a go at making our own origami lotus flowers!

We’re using our Maths’ knowledge and understanding to design our own board games. We are going to challenge Ms Cole to play them all!

Mince Pies

Year 6 began creating Mince Pies today. They worked in groups to create home-made pastry before creating their own individual pies to take home. Great use of team work, as well as maths skills, in order to create the perfect Christmas treats. We can’t wait to create more to sell.  

Year 6H love reading stories to nursery

Year 6 love reading stories to nursery as part of their PSHE buddy reading sessions. Nursery love it too. It’s a great way to promote reading and a cohesive community.

Buddy Reading!

1Y love spending time with their Year 3 buddies. This week they discussed their favourite traditional tales before sharing a book together. Year 3 made excellent story tellers!

Christmas Fair

Thank you to everyone who came to the Christmas Fair and to the Friends of Sherington for putting on such a great event – much festive cheer was spread! Thanks to Ms Portman and our choirs too.

6A practised thier football skills today by playing half-court matches. They practised thier dribbling, passing and shooting skills in competitive games; some great sports personalities in the making.

2C visit the Royal Naval College

As part of our Humanities topic on Greenwich, we visited the Royal Naval College. We learnt about the history of the buildings, visited and looked at shapes in the chapel and even got to play skittles in the old skittle alley just like the sailors used to do. We had such a wonderful day!

2T visit The Royal Naval College

As part of our humanities topic ‘Greenwich’, 2T visited The Royal Naval College. We learnt about the history of the buildings, played skittles in the bowling alley and then we looked at 2D and 3D shapes in the Chapel.

IF 5 senses carousel

This week 1F have been learning about the 5 senses. The children completed a carousel of activities which meant they had to use the different senses, such as taste, to complete the different challenges.
