Year 2 visit Well Hall Pleasaunce

This week, Year 2 visited Well Hall Pleasaunce which was the once the home of the famous children’s author, Edith Nesbit. We followed an activity trail, encompassing some statues of characters from her books and ​the site of her former home. 

Year 6 trip to Museum of London

Today, Year 6 went to the Museum of London (Docklands) where they conducted research into their Humanities topic “Port of London”. A very interesting and informative day had by all, during which we had the chance to watch films, solve puzzles and gather evidence using primary and secondary sources.  

4C getting ready for Sports Day

4C were hard at work this morning, practicing their athletic skills. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone next week to celebrate the children’s fantastic skills.

Writing in code!

Our year 5 children have had a go at writing in Python to code games with some really getting to grips with the complicated coding language. 

Student Council Presentation to Governors

Our fantastic Student Council presented to the school governors to explain their roles, why it is so important, how they do it and the impact. They created their own presentation and did an incredible job of delivering it.

Year 3 rehearse for their concert

  Year 3 have spent the morning rehearsing ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ which they will perform to parents and peers next Monday. They have worked hard all year, singing in 3 part harmony and playing keyboards, drums and brass instruments and they are ready to show everyone their exceptional talents!

This week, the children in Year 2 showed of their knowledge of capacity and volume to some of our parents. We compared a variety of containers and used measuring cylinders to record different volumes.

Senior Band record at Recording Studio

Our fabulous Senior Band (made up from year 5 and 6 pupils) have spent the day at Helicon Mountain recording studio, owned by Jools Holland. 4C are busy building their working torches. We are really excited to see how they all turn out.

Year 5 become Foley Artists…

Year 5 had the chance to become Foley Artists in their music lesson this afternoon. A Foley Artist creates sound effects for music in film, TV and radio. We used a range of instruments and other classroom items (and personal items) to create sound effects for walking, running, climbing a ladder and jumping.

6H and Nursery

Yesterday, the children in 6H spent time with children from Nursery – during one of the fantastic PSHE ‘Buddy’ sessions. Year 6 mentors supported the younger children, who enjoyed a range of physical activities (many devised by the Year 6 children themselves).

Royal Wedding Celebration in Charlton Park

Sherington children enjoyed an afternoon in Charlton Park to celebrate the Royal wedding on Friday. We ate a picnic which was followed by some traditional games. We ended the day with a Royal quiz and stories under the shade of an avenue of trees whilst year 6 challenged staff to a game of rounders!

SATs Breakfast & Production Reveal

Today, to celebrate a hard but successful week, Year 6 were treated to a SATs breakfast, full of delcious treats. They were also shown the film version of this year’s Year 6 production: The Jungle Book. A great reaction from all the children and we can’t wait to start rehearshing!

Picnic Preparation

Yesterday, 6H prepared for the Royal Wedding picnic today. Miss Wilkinson supported us to learn new games and how to lead the school during a fun afternoon.

4W Anglo-Saxon research

As part of our humanities topic, 4W have been finding out where in the world the Anglo-Saxons came from and where they settled.

Year 2 discussion

This week in Year 2 we have been discussing whether or not some of the characters in our story should use a monster to guard their gold. This text map has been used to help us retell our discussion. Ask your child to show you the actions. 

Be a Bee!

Durin our school trip to Wide Horizons last week, 1Y learned all about the importance of bees to our ecosystem. They discovered how bees collect pollen and nectar from plants through role play.

4C circuit work

As part of our Science topic ‘Electricity’, 4C have been busy making and testing different electrical circuits.

Butterfly Arrival!

There was a great buzz of excitement in Puffin Class this afternoon, as the children spotted that one of our chrysalises had opened and a beautiful butterfly had emerged! We are now eagerly awaiting the arrival of the rest of the butterflies, we will keep you posted!

Year 1

Year 1 spent their guided reading time outside in the Linnaeus Garden today They enjoyed books in the sunshine, listened to stories and looked at the plants that are growing. What a lovely way to spend the afternoon! .

Busy in the Sunshine!

Puffin Class have made the most of their afternoon at school in the sunshine. The children collaborated in building dens,wrote stories, spent time looking for newts and snails and practised counting in twos, fives and tens! IMG_2547[1]

Year 2 Leaf and Bark Rubbing

As part of our learning about plants, Year 2 continued to explore the different trees around the school. We used paper and crayons to take rubbings of the different leaves and bark. This enabled us to compare the their patterns and shapes. 

Puffins’ Special Visitors

Puffin class have been busy taking care of some special visitors, 18 caterpillars! They have been learning about life cycles as part of their topic, ‘Changes’ and we have watched them grow at a rapid rate, eating all their food! Year 4 had a fantastic trip to the Museum of London where they were given a chance to explore the Romans, Vikings and Anglo-Saxons!

Year 6 & Nursery Ball Skills

6A and their buddies in Nursery took part in ball skills as part of PSHE this week. Year 6 taught Nursery different skills such as catching, throwing and kicking. A fun morning, enjoyed by all.  

Trip to Greenwich Park!

1Y had a wonderful trip to Greenwich Park this week. We began by identifying the different types of plants in the Flower Garden before looking at the different leisure opportunities. The playground was a very popular option!

Year 2 Science

Science Week in 6A

As part of Science Week, 6A have taken part in a range of activities. We tried to light up a light bulb using just lemons; received a workshop about ocean-life pollution before making our own cork fish; finally, we worked with Nursery and completed a range of science challenges.

Year 2 Shape & Material Hunt at Greenwich Penninsula

On Wednesday Year 2 enjoyed a trip to Greenwich Penninsula to discover what shapes and materials have been used in the architecture there. We also took a look at the new exhibition at the Now Gallery designed as joyful destination for healing with light, colour, shape and sound.
